Amazon has deprecated PA-API 5 and replaced it with the Creators API. The Creators API is only open to Amazon Associates with at least 10 qualifying sales in the past 30 days. If you don’t have those sales, or you need reviews, seller profiles, deals or best-seller lists, use a third-party Amazon data API that you call with your own key.
What changed from PA-API 5 to the Creators API
Amazon’s deprecation notice says PA-API 5 “has been deprecated and is being replaced by the Creators API”. Calls to the old endpoint return a message telling you to migrate. Per Amazon’s migration guide, the main changes are:
| Aspect | PA-API 5 | Creators API |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication | AWS Signature Version 4 on every request | OAuth 2.0 bearer token, valid for 1 hour |
| Credentials | Access key and secret key | Credential ID and secret from Associates Central |
| Endpoint | webservices.amazon.com/paapi5/… | creatorsapi.amazon/catalog/v1/… |
| Parameters | PascalCase, e.g. ItemIds | lowerCamelCase, e.g. itemIds |
| Offers | Offers.Listings, Offers.Summaries | OffersV2 only |
Who can use the Creators API
The Creators API introduction lists four requirements: you must be enrolled in Amazon Associates for the target marketplace, “have at least 10 qualifying sales within the past 30 days”, register for API access in Associates Central, and generate API credentials.
That suits an affiliate site that already sells. It shuts out a new affiliate site, a price tracker, a seller tool, a research project or an internal dashboard that does not send buyers to Amazon.
What the Creators API covers, and what it doesn’t
The Creators API has four operations: GetItems, SearchItems, GetVariations and GetBrowseNodes. They return catalog data: item info, images, browse nodes with sales rank, and OffersV2 offer listings. Amazon Data API, a third-party API on RapidAPI, has 17 endpoints:
| Data you need | Creators API | Amazon Data API |
|---|---|---|
| Product details by ASIN | GetItems | /product-details |
| Keyword search | SearchItems | /search |
| Browse nodes | GetBrowseNodes | /categories |
| Seller offers | OffersV2 in GetItems | /product-offers |
| Ratings and top reviews | Not offered | /product-reviews |
| Best-seller lists | Not offered | /best-sellers |
| Today’s Deals | Not offered | /deals |
| Seller profile and storefront | Not offered | /seller-profile, /seller-products |
| UPC, EAN or ISBN to ASIN | No dedicated operation | /product-lookup |
| Search autocomplete | Not offered | /search-autocomplete |
| Access | Associates with 10 sales in 30 days | RapidAPI key, free plan of 100 requests a month |
Use the Creators API if you qualify and only need catalog data with affiliate links: it is Amazon’s own source. Use a third-party API when you don’t qualify, or need the rows marked “Not offered”. If you earn Associates commissions, check your Associates agreement before you use any non-Amazon data source.
Get Amazon product data with a RapidAPI key
- Create a free RapidAPI account and subscribe to Amazon Data API. The Basic plan is free for 100 requests a month; paid plans are on the pricing page.
- Copy
X-RapidAPI-Keyfrom any endpoint’s code snippet and keep it in an environment variable. - Call an endpoint with an ASIN and a marketplace code:
curl --request GET \
--url 'https://amazon-data-api-search-product-reviews-best-sellers.p.rapidapi.com/product-details?asin=B088NRLMPV&country=US' \
--header 'X-RapidAPI-Key: YOUR_RAPIDAPI_KEY' \

resp = requests.get(
"https://amazon-data-api-search-product-reviews-best-sellers.p.rapidapi.com/product-details",
params={"asin": "B088NRLMPV", "country": "US"},
headers={

resp.raise_for_status()
body = resp.json()
if "error" in body: # bad input or not found: HTTP 200 with an error body
raise RuntimeError(f"{body['error']['code']}: {body['error']['message']}")
print(body["data"]["price"])The same call works for 23 marketplaces through country. To see the response before subscribing, paste a product URL into the free ASIN lookup. In Claude or another MCP client, the Amazon MCP server exposes the same endpoints as tools.
